China – MIDAS Activity and Future Plans
MIDAS aims to secure significant levels of new investment and employment for the Manchester area. We seek to achieve this by:
To achieve the above aims, MIDAS has a team of professionals and the expertise and resources of our partners, which includes a Manchester representative office in Wuhan. This gives us the ability to provide a comprehensive range of customised support and information on all matters and to respond promptly and effectively to investor requirements. MIDAS has undertaken significant activities in China over the last 12 months, which has proved successful and provides encouragement for the future. Activity in the 2000/01 financial year centred mainly around attendance at the CFIIT (China Fair for International Investment & Trade) fair in September 2000 in Xiamen. MIDAS and Manchester City Council jointly took a stand at the fair and produced a supporting brochure in Chinese. The delegation of four manning the stand were kept extremely busy with all 2000 Chinese and 500 English brochures, along with specific sector information given out over the 5 days of the fair. MIDAS partners are also involved in activity in China mainly reflecting links with twin cities in China (Manchester – Wuhan, Salford – Chengdu and Tameside – Bengbu) and MIDAS is keen to use these links to develop activity in China. Plans for 2001/02 are to continue the development work in this market. Attendance at a similar fair to CFIIT in 2001 or a high technology fair is a possibility. MIDAS is also keen to build on partner links described above and to use links/expertise and resources already developed by these partners, including Manchester City Council’s representative office in Wuhan. MIDAS is also keen to work with North West Partners in their activities in China. For further information on MIDAS activities in China,
