Liverpool City Council
With the oldest Chinatown in Europe and the long history of sea links, Liverpool and Shanghai has been linked for hundreds of years. The two cities have been linked between the similarity of their waterfronts, their maritime industries, and their footballs.
The Liverpool City Council has recently established a China Affairs Office, which will be co-located with ChinaLink, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The Office will co-ordinate the activities with Shanghai and other areas of China and work with ChinaLink to form a common programme for the Liverpool - Shanghai link. In a result of the recent Mayoral visit to Shanghai organised by the Chinal Affairs Office, the two cities are discussing further co-operations.
