Halton Borough CouncilTongling and Halton first signed a partnership agreement in 1998 to co-operate on developing trade and promoting educational and cultural links. To date there have been two exchange visits in both directions.
Through the active encouragement of the Chinese Government, Tongling is enthusiastically embracing the opportunity to make contact with other nations and cultures to both modernise its infrastructures and to embark on co-operative schemes.
St Chad’s is offering a Mandarin course from September 2001 for pupils in year 7 as part of their specialisation in foreign languages. The Heath school is developing links in chemistry with its partner school, while Fairfield is developing links in music and art. Halton Borough is a unitary council of about 121,000 persons. It also has a long tradition in the chemical industry which is still the largest industry in terms of employment in the Borough. More information is available about the Borough on www.halton.gov.uk. Future proposals include activity summer camp exchanges between schools in Halton and in Tongling City for teenagers. Contact information : Executive director : Mr Richard Tregea |
